Looking for an all inclusive household chores list for your family? Here’s 135 chores everyone can do to keep the house clean.
One of my favorite songs in “Hands on Deck” by Waking Ashland. The lyrics say “All hands on deck, don’t abandon the ship, you’ll never know what it could have been”.
The author is talking about relationships, but I think this song is perfect for household chores!!
I bet you didn’t see that connection coming. 😉
Seriously though, in a home everyone needs to do their part to keep it from sinking!
That includes your little toddler up to your high schooler. No one will be left out when it comes to doing chores!

Things to keep in mind:
I’ve thought of a few ideas to help you and your family get your ship to your “destination”. Your destination being a clean, happy home.
First, be consistent. If my seven years of being an elementary school taught me it was to be consistent. Children will pay attention.
If you have a rule and kept the consequent to the rule 9 times out of 10, they’ll remember the one time they got away without the consequence.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. If parents around the world were waiting for toddlers to make their beds perfectly, we’d have a lot of skeletons by beds. Creepy, I know, but you get my point. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be done, especially when they’re little.
Praise, Praise, Praise! Yup, constantly, and I mean constantly, tell your children how amazing they are. Tell them how much you appreciate them helping with chores. Tell them you couldn’t do it without them. Praise them! It will really make a big difference in their desire to do chores.
They’re more capable than you think. I think this is especially important to remember when assigning chores. Kids are amazing! They’re resilient, they want to help, and they want to be noticed and loved by you. Give them responsibilities and praise them!
Daily Household Chores
Getting your household chores list ready and in practice will help you very much! You will be able to delegate household responsibilities, stay ahead of the game, and not be mentally overloaded.
You can get every family member helping, so you’re not running the ship alone.
Plus, you can put things on autopilot. Ideally, you would be able to have everyone do their part to help around the house and you won’t have to keep delegating all of the time. Everyone will know what to do!

Daily Chore List
Each morning, I start cleaning the bedrooms first, because that’s where I am when I wake up. Here’s everything I do in my bedroom.
Bedrooms
- Make the bed
- Open the curtains and blinds
- Put things away
- Clean dirt, food, or other things as they get dirty
- Clean off the tops of dressers
- Put toys away
- Put books away on shelves
- Clean off the top of nightstands
Then I move on to my kids bedrooms and I help them do the same thing. My kids are 4, 3, and 1 so I still end up doing a lot of their chores, but I’m teaching them to do as much as they can independently.
Kitchen
Next, I move on to the kitchen. First, I get everyone breakfast, we eat together, and then I start cleaning. Here’s a list of everything that needs to get done in the kitchen:
- Make meals
- Wash dishes after every meal
- Run the dishwasher
- Put away dishes from the dishwasher
- Put away things that don’t belong in the kitchen
- Clean all of the kitchen counters
- Wipe down the table
- Do laundry if you’d like. I do my laundry all on one day, because it’s easier for me to remember and manage.
- Sweep the floors
- Mop the floors if you like. I also do this weekly, but you’re welcome to do it whenever you’d like.
- Wipe down the inside of the microwave. This is much easier and takes less time if you wipe it off each time instead of once a month. Plus, it’s doesn’t get as gross.
- Organize your mail. If I don’t take care of and organize the mail as we bring it in every day, it piles up.
- Take out the trash
- Take out recycling
- Flatten cardboard boxes
- Crush cans
- Feed pets (and clean the litterbox if you have cats).
- Set the table
- Clear kitchen table
- Sort silverware
- Fold napkins
- Wipe off table
- Clear countertops
- Prepare snacks
- Prepare simple meal
- Make lunches
- Pack lunches

Living Room
After that, I move on to clean the living room. I have my little kids help me in here and their own bedrooms the most.
- Vacuum high traffic areas if needed
- Put things away where they’re supposed to go
- Walk the dog (if you have one)
- Brush pets (if you have them)
- Fold blankets and throws and put throw pillows where they belong
Bathroom
Third, I work on the bathrooms. Somedays, all I do is check them. If they’re dirty, this is what I’ll do:
- Wipe down the counters
- Wipe down the sink
- Clean anything else that needs to be cleaned
- Put anything in its spot that’s out of place
Outside
It’s easy to forget about the outside of our homes, but they need to be taken care of too!
- Sweep the porch
- Hose off the patio
- Wash bikes
- Sweep out the garage
- Get rid of things that aren’t used
- Vacuum the car
- Bring mail in
- Put away yard toys

Easy Ways to Assign Chores
There are many ways you can assign chores in your house, but make sure you include these two ways. They will make your life so much easier!
Create Individual Lists
The first thing to do to create a household chores list is to create individual lists for each of your family members. This will make sure that each person knows what they’re responsible for doing.
When I create lists for my family, I start with my youngest first, because he’s the easiest. Then, I work my way up until I get to my husband and me.
I make a chore chart for each child in my family. On it, I put any homework as well as chores they need to do every day. My children are little like I said.
My oldest two have computer programs to help them learn letters and numbers. They do this 5 or 6 days a week. I put that on their charts. I also put the chores they need to do every day.
We talk together about what we’d each prefer to do and add those to our lists. Then we divvy out the jobs that no one likes to do.
Personalize Each List
My greatest piece of advice is to give each of your children options, but let them choose. That’s the nugget of gold.
Let THEM choose! There is power is choosing for yourself. Let them be in charge of that.
They will be much happier and more likely to do their chores if they get to help choose them.

Include Everything in Your Chore List
Put everything you need to do or that needs to happen to help you keep your home clean. Add to the chore list everything like:
- Prepare meals
- Run kids to school and practices
- Grocery shop
- Run errands
- Prep meals
- Home repairs
This will truly help everyone have a plan, and it will keep your life running smoothly! Having a cleaning schedule might sound like the worst thing ever, but trust me, it will help so much!
